Winter came to London yesterday and covered every surface with a blanket of freshly fallen snow. The snow was beautiful in the city, but I talked The Mister into taking the train to Kew Gardens to see it dressed in winter’s best. There was something magical about tromping through the snow, admiring the snow-laden branches and icy lakes on your way to warm up in the steamy, palm-filled tropical and temperate houses. Lovely. I hope you enjoy the photos.
As I walked through the Tropical House, I remembered a book I used to read to my children...Miss Rumphius. Do you remember it?
Loved this post explat! Well done to you and the Mister for taking the trouble. Kew is our favourite place in London but we haven’t been this winter.
These are my Mister’s photos of kew, including the colourful pictures of the exhibition of Chihuli glassware when they were on exhibition there. http://aegiandyad.deviantart.com/gallery/?q=Kew
Thank you for the lovely photos and for the description of Kew and London under snow. I have been so busy that I haven’t been on any leisure outings since November! Where did the time go?
Take care and look forward to seeing more of your work.
Hi Enetia! How ARE you? You husbands photos are absolutely stunning!! I signed up for a photography class, so maybe there is hope for me yet .
Such a beautiful pairing, the kaleidoscope of man-made colors and the natural world. I love Chihuly glass and visited the Chihuly Museum and studio when we lived in Washington. I can’t imagine how lovely it was at Kew.
Explat, how I envy your going to Chihuli’s Museum and studio. Wow, lucky you! Your photos are intelligent because you feature the subject. You would be surprised how many photos do not do that. Mr was born with a camera round his neck and his mother never forgave him because of the pain his delivery caused her! Seriously though, he would wear the camera in bed if he could. He wasn’t even trained, just started taking pictures at an early age and never stopped.
Chihuli at Kew was astonishing. The light glittered on the glass and it seemed as if the glass houses had been inhabited by beautiful aliens, glinting in the sunlight. Utterly magical, especially the boat filled with gloriously shaped glass, tethered on the lake, where it blew gently this way and that. I shall never forget that sight. After seeing Chihuli the kids and I sent several Christmasses filling our front room with balloons in the lightest shades we could find. It was not as magical as the Chihuli but close.
Take care. I intend to read more of your blogs because they are very interesting. You are doing what I wish I could do if I had time. So please keep doing it and hopefully I will catch up on what you say. All the best to both of you.
Hi Explat. Hope you get this post because I know you’ll love it. Pictures of an exhibition of orchids at Kew! I hope to go and see it, fingers crossed.

Wow. Gorgeous! Can you imagine being allowed to work there? I’ll definitely make plans to head over there before it ends(have to make the most of our membership!) Do orchids have a scent? I should know this, but I don’t.
